Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Council are warning about power cut scam calls in the wake of Storm Eunice.

Officials say they have had reports of fraudsters contacting people experiencing a loss of supply.

They are being asked to press one to be directed through to a national call centre, but residents are being advised that this is a scam.

Anyone affected by power cuts or needing more details about their supply is asked to call 105.

Posting on Facebook, Wiltshire Council said:

"We've had some reports of scam calls to people that have had power cuts.

"The callers ask people to press one to be directed through to a call centre.

"This is a scam; if you have a power cut or need more details about your power supply, you should call 105.

Wiltshire Police shared the post, along with advice on what to do if you are struggling to get through to report power cuts.

They said: "We are aware there are still people without electricity in Wiltshire who are struggling to get through on the phones.

"You can download the Power Track app from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to report using your postcode and a picture.

"Remember to not approach any damaged power lines or equipment".

More information on how to report fraud can be found on the Wiltshire Police or Action Fraud websites.

Police added: "Stay safe and in an emergency, call 999".
