Salisbury is one of 10 areas across the South West to receive a funding boost through the Future High Streets Fund.

The bid for funding was provisionally offered to Wiltshire Council in December but has now been confirmed by the Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick.

The local authority has been awarded £9,355,301.

The cash will be used to revitalise one of the main gateway's to Salisbury city centre making it more attractive for visitors and residents.

The forecourt of the train station, will be redesigned and they'll be improvements to the road network and public spaces along Fisherton Street.

A number of apartments will be created to encourage the use of vacant upper floors and to encourage more young people living in the city.

The new leader of Wiltshire Council, Richard Clewer, is delighted the local authority has secured the funding.

"This significant investment means we can now move forward with the transformational project and rejuvenate our city centre."
