Additional repairs needed on Salisbury's Poultry Cross
The 14th century monument was damaged in a collision last year
A previously undetected fault has been found with the Poultry Cross monument in Salisbury.
It's been discovered during a final inspection by structural engineers, looking over the previous eight month repair project.
The issue is with a stone pinnacle, located above the damaged buttressing pier.
The structure was damaged last year when a car collided with it.
What happens next?
Temporary strapping has been placed around the rear of the pinnacle, but a more permanent fix is needed.
Scaffolding will be put in place on Thursday (20th April), with work commencing on Monday (24th) which should last two weeks.
The initial cost of the repairs as a result of the collision totalled £84,000, which is expected to be covered by Salisbury City Council's insurers.
There's also a £30,000 cost for additional conservation work on the Grade I listed monument.
Work only finished weeks ago
The setback in the repairs to the Poultry Cross come just a few weeks after the City Council and Salisbury Cathedral stonemasons marked the end of their eight month project on site.
The driver involved in the initial crash - Brandon Gamblin, 20 from Southampton, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and criminal damage.
He was given 8 months detention suspended for 24 months, 30 days rehabilitation activity requirement, 100 hours unpaid work and disqualified from driving for 3 years.
