Popular Salisbury cut-through route closed for three weeks
Ford Bridge is shut to allow for 'urgent repairs'
A popular route for drivers to avoid using the A338 or Salisbury city centre to get from Old Sarum to Laverstock has been closed for three weeks.
Wiltshire Council's carrying out 'urgent repair' work on Ford Bridge.
They started at the end of last week (Friday 20th October) with the authority expecting the work to take 21 days.
The road's been shut to vehicles, but still accessible for pedestrians, bikes and horse riders, as it's next to a stables.
In their traffic order for the works, Wiltshire Council say 'access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works'.
A diversion route is in place, taking drivers along Ford Lane to the A338, through the Winterbournes, along The Portway to the Beehive, on the A345 and then onto Roman Road in Ford - or vice versa.
The bridge has been a popular rat-run for many years, with the bridge structure having been clipped by vehicles on a number of occasions.
