Police in Amesbury say they 'can't ignore' some of the 'extreme views' on social media about Afghan nationals coming to the area for their safety.

Misinformation's been spreading about a rise in crimes connected to the group, which Inspector Ricky Lee says is untrue.

People are being housed in areas like Tidworth, Larkhill, Bulford and Durrington as part of a Government protection scheme.

Those moving here would have worked with the British military during operations there.

There's now a pledge to support them against reprisals from Taliban forces since the withdrawal of troops.

Inspector Ricky Lee's been dispelling the rumours about the group in a Facebook Live event:

He says there's no evidence of an increase or trend of crimes related to the Afghan nationals, but does admit that some allegations have been investigated.

No charges have been brought against any individual, with the crime levels at an expected rate for the population.

Officers have also denied any favouritism with incidents, saying they serve 'without fear or favour'.
