As of 8am yesterday (13th January) Salisbury District Hospital has 130 patients that have tested positive for Covid-19.
The intense pressure our hospital is under has lead to the CEO of the NHS Foundation Trust, Stacey Hunter ,writing an open letter describing the pandemic as "exhausting" and "relentless."
Non urgent operations have been postponed to help staff cope.
RISE IN CASES:
Case across Wiltshire continue to rise.
In the local authority that covers Wiltshire Council there were 1,934 in the seven days to the 8th January.
The number of cases has risen particularly sharply in the those aged 20-29.
Salisbury City Council says it's vital people stick to the national lockdown rules.
Leader Cllr Liz Sirman has issued this plea ;
"The new Covid variant has meant that cases are increasing sharply. Please act as if you have the virus and follow the government's restrictions. It is imperative that we all help the NHS by staying at home, we cannot allow Salisbury District Hospital to be overcome by cases."
Meanwhile Wiltshire's other hospital, Great Western Hospital in Swindon, declared a 'critical incident' yesterday.
BE COVID AWARE
The local authority is also remding people of the key symptoms of Coronavirus:
- A high temperature
- A new and continuous cough
- a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste
If you experience any of these symptoms, make sure you isolate and get a test as soon as possible.
