Salisbury shoppers urged to mask up
Face coverings compulsory in shops from tomorrow (30th November)
Last updated 29th Nov 2021
From 4am on Tuesday (30th November) face coverings will become compulsory in shops and other settings such as banks, post offices and hairdressers
The changes won't include hospitality settings however masks must be worn on public transport.
The government has said the fresh restrictions are "precautionary measures" against the Omicron variant of coronavirus which was first detected in South Africa last week.
Secondary school pupils across England have today seen masks reintroduced in communal areas like corridors.
Plea to stick to the new rules
Salisbury BID (Business Improvement District) is urging everyone to stick to the new rules.
The BID has produced a new poster for businesses, that can be used to highlight the tighter restrictions to customers.
Th poster can be downloaded here.
Salisbury shops have made a lot of changes over the last few years to make sure they adhere to restrictions and keep customers and staff safe.
For those who are still concerned, there are days of the week and times that are quieter in Salisbury city centre.
Footfall trends show that Monday and Wednesday afternoons are less busy.
Some independent businesses are also offering private appointments, or shopping as a small group
Robin McGowan, Chief Executive of Salisbury BID, said:
“Salisbury residents have offered amazing support to our local business community at a time when they really needed it, and they need it still. Our shops are following all Government safety guidance but customers are also reminded they have a part to play too. Please adhere to the rules and together we can experience Salisbury and Christmas in a safe way.”
When shopping in Salisbury during the time that is left before Christmas, please remember to stick to these rules to ensure the community, and our businesses, stay safe:
- Wear masks in all shops and on public transport
- Follow all necessary hygiene measures - clean hands, cover face, make space
- Follow safety advice inside and outside shops
- Respect our hardworking shopworkers
- Don’t leave Christmas shopping to the last minute – shop sooner rather than later to help prevent a last-minute rush of customers on Christmas Eve!
