'Hands off Bambi' - plea to leave deer alone
Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital reiterate warning over baby deer
There's a reminder from Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital that if you're walking in the countryside and come across a baby deer curled up to not touch the fawn.
Deer often leave their young hiding in the grass for some time while the mum goes off to feed but many people wrongly assume it's been abandoned or is injured.
The Newton Tony based charity says touching the little one risks tainting it with human scent which in turn could mean she rejects it.
If the fawn is vocal, their distress call is a high pitched squeak, then it might indicate it needs help but the charity say the best advice is to contact them first on 07850 778752
Marilyn and Mike Korkis who run the charity say while people mean well this time of year brings a lot of 'heart-ache.'
