A second planning application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council for a new Asda store in Salisbury.

One was submitted and approved in 2017, but no building work was started during the two year deadline.

In November last year, the supermarket announced plans to open a new store in the city, on land off Hampton Park roundabout.

They held their own public consultation to get the thoughts of residents on the proposals.

The plans submitted to the local authority include a petrol station, drive thru coffee shop, and a cycle link between London Road and Green Lane.

The car park will be able to hold a total of 323 cars.

It's thought to be a development costing around £20 million.

What the outline of the store will look like

The planning application says:

"The site is currently underutilised and the proposed development looks to maximise potential benefits for the local community and economy. A public development such as this can respond to the character of Salisbury and Bishopdown whilst creating greater pedestrian and cycle access into the site and adjacent residential areas.

"The site provides an opportunity to create a local food store for the north of Salisbury and the residential areas of Bishopdown and Hampton Park / Riverdown Park which will be of direct benefit to the communities it surrounds, while providing increased choice and competition for the existing Aldi, Tesco and Waitrose stores elsewhere in Salisbury."

Following on from Asda's consultation last year, the public are now being encouraged to make their comments on the Planning Application.

The deadline to have your say is the 18th August.

A decision on the plans is set to be made on the 23rd September.
