Pewsey: Firefighters still dealing with fire at metal scrap yard

Drivers are being asked to respect the road closures as 20 firefighters continue to tackle the blaze

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service were called at around 2:45pm on Thursday (8th June) with reports of a fire at a metal scrap yard near Pewsey.

It took 60 firefighters to control the blaze, with fire engines attending from Wiltshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

Around 20 firefighters are still dealing with a fire this morning (Friday 9th June).

The B3087 between Pewsey and Burbage remains closed.

With reports of drivers moving the closure signposts, locals are being urged not to ignore the signs put up by the fire service.

In a statement, Pewsey Fire Station have said: ‘We appreciate that the road closure in Pewsey is not ideal for people but we have put this in place to keep you and our staff safe

‘Thank you for your support’.

Local residents are still being told to keep their doors and windows closed due to the smoke .

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
