A man has been arrested following a serious assault on Monday evening in Pewsey.

Wiltshire Police responded around 5:35pm after a man in his 30s was stabbed outside the Co-Operative on the High Street.

The man has suffered injuries which are not believed to be life-changing.

Thanks to assistance from members of the public, a 65-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody for questioning on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

A scene was put in place to allow officers to conduct enquiries and that has since been lifted.

Local Insp Ben Huggins said there’s likely to be an increased police presence in the area with officers conducting high-visibility patrols in the coming days.

Insp Huggins added: “We understand this will be a concerning incident for the community, but please be assured that this is believed to be a targeted assault where the victim was known to the suspect.

I’d like to commend the members of the public who assisted in this incident.

“The victim was swiftly given first aid, while they also helped to restrain the suspect until officers arrived at the scene.

“Their bravery undoubtedly helped aid the victim in their recovery and meant that the suspect was detained and arrested.”

Police are appealing for any witnesses of the incident to get in touch with them so ‘build a full picture’ of what happened by calling 101 and quoting reference 54230093269.
