A circus performer was hospitalised after falling during a show in Salisbury last night.

The aerial performer, who is in her mid 30s, was hurt while performing for Circus Zyair.

She has worked for the company since 2015 and has been described as a "highly experienced circus performer".

Ambulance staff attended Hudson's Field, where the show is being held, and took her to hospital.

It's believed some members of the audience left as they were too upset.

The circus is in the city until the 22nd May.

"We can confirm that one of our aerial performers fell during last nights performance in Salisbury. She is a highly experienced circus performer with many years experience. She loves her job and has been a valued member of the Circus Zyair family since 2015.

"She has now been discharged from hospital and is currently on her way back to the circus. We would like to thank the medical staff that quickly attended the site, hospital staff who took amazing care of her as well as the audience attending Wednesdays performance for their patience and understanding. Our remaining shows in Salisbury will be going ahead as planned."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We were called at 20.17hrs on Wednesday 18 May to an incident in Salisbury. We sent an air ambulance and a double-crewed land ambulance and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital”.
