Wiltshire Council's announced it's upgrading paths for pedestrians on Frogmore Road in Westbury.

The improvements aim to make the road safer for path users, particularly those walking to and from the new developments in the area.

Work will begin on 27th January with the road being closed. The entire project tis expected to take around 3 months to complete.

The 27th will see the removal of vegetation in preparation for the construction of a new footway on the whole north side of the road, stretching from its junction with Rosefield Way to its junction with Slag Lane.

The footway's construction is due to start on 3rd February, taking around 12 weeks to build. A 24-hour road closure will be in place for this period, with pedestrian routes linking to Frogmore Road also shut.

Diversions will be in place for road users and pedestrians and we're warned to expect delays.

The scheme is being funded through the council’s Local Highway and Footway Improvement Groups (LHFIG) programme. LHFIGs are sub groups of Wiltshire’s Community Area Boards that deal specifically with highway issues. This scheme is being funded both by the Westbury LHFIG and through an extra pot of funding that is set aside for larger-scale LHFIG projects around the county.

Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “This scheme has been brought forward by both the Westbury LHFIG and Westbury Town Council, so we know providing this much-needed footway has the support of the community.

“We understand that the upcoming road closures may cause some inconvenience, and we apologise for any disruptions this may cause. However, this project is a crucial step in enhancing pedestrian safety in Westbury, particularly as the area continues to grow and develop.

“We appreciate the patience of both residents and visitors throughout this process, and we are confident that the completed footway will have a lasting, positive impact on the community. This upgrade is part of our broader initiative to create safer and more accessible routes across the county. The new footway will provide a safer route for people walking to and from their destinations.

“A priority in our Business Plan is to have well-connected communities and the completion of this scheme will significantly enhance pedestrian access and safety for the residents in Westbury.”
