Emergency services were called to the scene just before 7.30am this morning (Wednesday 4th November).

A 16 year-old boy was trapped under the rear wheel of a bus.

Fire fighters had to cut him free and he was taken to Southampton Hospital by land ambulance.

He suffered head and ankle injuries.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue told Greatest Hits Radio.

"We were called to Castle Street at 7.29am this morning by the police. One crew from Salisbury attended, together with crews from Fordingbridge and Andover. The casualty was freed using hydraulic cutting equipment and taken to hospital."

The accident happened not far from the new bus gate installed on Castle Street two weeks ago as part of the People Friendly Project.

The scheme aims to cut through traffic through the city and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

It was a Salisbury Reds bus involved in the incident.

Alex Chutter, General Manager, said:

“I can confirm, one of our buses was involved in an incident in the city centre this morning, where a pedestrian has been injured. We are carrying out an immediate investigation to establish the circumstances involved.”

The road was closed for over an hour, but has now fully reopened.
