Fisherton Street will be closed overnight at times from next week

Salisbury's Fisherton Street will be closed to road users overnight next Monday (5th August) as the Fisherton Gateway project draws closer to its conclusion.

The closures will be in place from 7.00pm to 6.00am until Thursday 8th August and will allow the installation of the build out on Summerlock Bridge/Water Lane.

This is the latest feature of the on-going enhancement works which will provide the priority traffic system as set-out in the original design that will be introduced when the road is re-opened to two way traffic.

In an effort to support restaurants and takeaways in the area, delivery drivers will be able to park in the area behind City Hall and walk through to Fisherton Street to make their collections - with access via the A36.

The Maltings Car Park will remain open as free parking between 6pm and 8am for all Fisherton Street users.

As seen during the recent closure of North Street at its junction with Fisherton Street, North Street will again become two way permitting vehicles to exit via South Street whilst egress via Fisherton Street is not permitted.

Second Salisbury road to close overnight

A second closure will come on 12th & 13th August for Fisherton Street to be resurfaced, with a similar arrangement for delivery drivers in place.

At the same time as the first overnight closure on Fisherton Street, Churchfields Road will be shut overnight from 8th to 9th August as part of the station forecourt improvements.

This closure will be between 8pm and 5am to allow for the removal of the existing central traffic island opposite 15 and 16 Churchfields Road.

The work is part of the enhancement scheme for the station forecourt which includes new pedestrian and cycle access to the station from Churchfields Road, as well as a new crossing on that road.

HGV's will not be able to access the industrial estate while the work is taking place.

Businesses requiring 'critical' access can speak to the contractor to arrange a possible escort through the works. However this will involve vehicles waiting on Churchfields Road before being escorted.

Cllr Nick Holder, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Street Scene and Flooding, said:

“One of our Business Plan priorities is to have vibrant well-connected communities and we are well on our way to achieving this in Salisbury.

“We would like to thank businesses and residents for their patience and continued co-operation in delivering these important schemes for Salisbury.”

These projects form part of the £9 million investment from the government’s Future High Streets Fund.
