The A345 on the northern edge of Salisbury will be closed overnight for the next two weeks, starting from 7.00pm this evening (Thursday 14th March).

Wiltshire Council's carrying out resurfacing on the stretch between Old Castle Road, opposite Old Sarum Castle, through to the junction with Paul's Dene Road.

The road will be shut each weeknight from 7.00pm until 6.00am while the work's ongoing.

It's due to be completed on the morning of Thursday 28th March, ahead of the Easter weekend.

As well as the resurfacing, we're told new road markings will be painted and some ironworks adjusted.

A diversion route is planned while the closure's in place, taking drivers along the A30 London Road, to the A338 through the Winterbournes to Cholderton, along the A303 to Amesbury Countess, and back down the A345 to the Beehive.

The route in grey is the official diversion route for the A345 Castle Road closure - it's longer than many locals would use, as traffic has to be diverted along A roads

Alternative, and much shorter, diversions are possible for those with local knowledge.

The work is being carried out ahead of the A345 also being part of the official diversion route for the three month full closure of the A360 from The Avenue all the way to Longbarrow.

That's in preparation of the A303 Stonehenge tunnel project, and will begin straight after the Easter weekend (2nd April).
