Injured otter that took refuge in Wilton flower shop on road to recovery
Unusual visitor snuck into store on West Street
Staff in a business in Wilton had a furry visitor last week, an otter !
The creature crossed a busy road before taking refuge in flower shop Paloma Lily much to the surprise of staff.
Nicknamed 'Mr Otter' staff say he made himself at home, curling up in house plants and cleaning his bottom.
As the otter had facial injuries Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital were called, volunteers were quickly able to catch the young pup who had curled up under a bench and took it back to their centre in Newton Tony.
The charity say the otter was in good spirits describing it as 'feisty' and they were able to wash the wounds out.
The creature spent a night with the charity and was well fed with trout after a shout out on their Facebook page!
It was then transferred to the RSPCA in Taunton and on to the Otter Uk Trust where it will continue its rehabilitation before being released in the wild.
Paloma Lily is owned by Wiltshire Councillor Pauline Church.
A post on the shop's Facebook page said 'it was a privilege to get so close to this cool dude and offer some respite from his ordeal."
Last week an otter also made a surprise visit to Salisbury Cathedral.
Meanwhile another otter was spotted running along the pavement by Southampton Road with the plastic ring holder which holds cans together around its neck.
The report came too late for Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital to respond but they have urged anyone with further sightings to call them on 07850778752.
The charity has urged people to dispose of rubbish properly and to take particular care with drinks packaging;
"Plastic beer can holders should be cut before throwing away, they cause no end of damage from entanglement for wildlife."
