Tickets have gone on sale today (Tuesday 16th February) for the first Salisbury City Community Lottery draw.
It's been set up by Salisbury City Council in order to raise money for charities, community interest companies and organisations in the city that have been affected by the pandemic.
People can play by buying a ticket for ÂŁ1 online, with 60% of all money collected going to good causes.
The rest will be for prize money, an external lottery manager who runs the game and VAT.
The drawn out ticket could win someone ÂŁ25,000.
It's going to be done on Saturday 27th March to give people time to sign up, and it will then become a weekly draw.
The groups signed up include:
- Community Transport South Wiltshire
- Horatio's Garden
- Stars Appeal
- Wessex Stoma Support Group
- Safer & Supportive Salisbury
- Salisbury Transition City
- The Pantry Partnership
- Alabare
The council say that the coronavirus pandemic has meant it's more important than ever that local charities receive financial support in the future.
Leader of the City Council, Cllr Liz Sirman, said:
"The Salisbury City Community Lottery is really exciting and I hope that lots of people join in. It will support local voluntary organisations and charities.
Whilst this is a fantastic and fun opportunity for everyone, we want to remind everyone to gamble responsibly."
