The star of The Crown, Peep Show, Broadchurch and The Favourite is showing her support for the Stars Appeal by agreeing to be an Honorary Patron for the charity.

She learned all about their work during a visit to our hospital in January 2020, where she visited cancer patients, the labour ward and staff working hard across other units there.

Olivia Colman said:

"I am deeply honoured to have been asked to be honorary patron of the Stars Appeal. My visit there filled me with joy and the positivity and enthusiasm from patients and staff were such a beautiful thing to behold. Thank you so much for having me, and I hope to come back and visit again when next I am allowed."

WHAT DOES THE STARS APPEAL DO?

The charity works to fund things across Salisbury District Hospital over and above what the NHS can provide.

That includes things like new equipment, such as the MRI Scanners arriving on site soon, free Wi-Fi, support for staff and patients through the chaplaincy service and much more.

The charity has to raise £1 million each year to keep services running.

Lord Pembroke, President of the Stars Appeal said:

"We are delighted that Olivia has chosen to become a Patron of the Stars Appeal. I had the pleasure of accompanying her during her visit to the charity and it was immediately clear that she shares our passion for helping people in hospital and their loved ones and supporting the NHS staff that care for them. We are very much looking forward to welcoming her back as soon as we are able and to her continued support in enabling the Stars Appeal to do even more to help people in hospital."
