From today (Monday 29th March) Old Sarum is welcoming visitors again, having been closed for almost four months.

The site has been shut since December 2020 due to the pandemic and lockdowns but we can now book in advance to go to the castle.

English Heritage have confirmed it will be open between 10am and 5pm every day, including the bank holiday Friday and Monday this week.

It's one of over 50 places to welcome visitors back from today, but people have to wait until April 12th for Stonehenge.

Kate Mavor, English Heritage's Chief Executive, said:

"We can't wait to open up our sites again and to welcome people back. It's been a long, long winter and our sites - with their wide open spaces, beautiful buildings, fun events and fascinating stories - will be the tonic we all need."

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR VISIT

In order to keep people safe there have been a number of changes made.

English Heritage say these are the rules to follow during visits:

Face coverings are mandatory in all our indoor public spaces, including takeaway cafés and tearooms

  • Staff have been trained in hygiene and social distancing
  • One way systems and markers on the ground to help visitors keep a safe distance
  • New welcome information and site-specific signposts to guide visits
  • More frequent cleaning
  • Protective screens
  • Hand sanitiser
  • New social distancing barriers, particularly around toilets and admission areas
  • Your contact details and the date of your visit will be recorded for Test and Trace

You can find all the information and book a visit by visiting the English Heritage website.
