Old Sarum drink driver disqualified and fined
42 year old Jose Bruno Sousa initially denied a charge against him
An Old Sarum man's been disqualified from the roads for a year, after admitted drink driving.
42 year Jose Bruno Sousa, of Norman Drive, was spotted by police going through a stop sign on St Edmunds Church Street in Salisbury in April this year.
The officers that observed him pulled Sousa over to talk to him about his manner of driving, and could smell alcohol on him.
He blew over the legal limit at the roadside, and again at Amesbury Police Station, where a reading of 42 microgrammes was taken - the limit is 35.
Sousa initially pleaded not guilty to the charge against him but later changed his plea.
He's now been disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £415, and required to pay court costs of £450 and a victim surcharge of £166.
PC Pallas from Salisbury station said:
“Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences. Every year many people are killed by drink drivers and it is good to see that the courts have taken another drink driver off the roads.
“It is only a matter of time before you get caught. If you know you are going out for the night, walk, take a taxi or get a lift. Do not risk your life or the life of others.”
