Planners to make decision on 17 new houses in Calne
A decision was due in August, but deferred over sewage and flooding concerns
A planning application to build 17 houses in Calne will be determined next week.
Wiltshire Council’s northern area planning committee will meet next Wednesday (September 3) to discuss the proposal to build the houses off James Avenue in Regent’s Park, Calne.
A decision had been expected on August 6, but was deferred over sewage and flooding concerns.
At that meeting, Calne Town Council had expressed concerns over sewage management in the area, as well as flood mitigation measures.
Wessex Water had raised no objections to the application, but some members of the committee noted concerns raised by members of the public.
The scheme, which was first proposed in October 2024 by Swindon-based developer Hills Homes, includes the construction of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.
Three two-bed and two three-bed houses would be designated ‘affordable’.
“The overall vision for the site is to provide a high quality and distinctive development, which complements as is in-keeping with the surrounding new development of Regents Park,” said Hills.
“There will be a range of housing to meet the needs of the area, whilst respecting and enhancing the site’s environmental assets.
“The housing will be integrated within the landscape and will create a distinctive sense of place.”
