Wilshire-based charity Alzheimer’s Support have opened their newest Day centre in Salisbury.

The centre is charity's fourth across Wiltshire, adding to the three in Warminster, Devizes and Trowbridge.

We spoke to Laura Crouch, a community fundraiser for the charity, who said: “Most people know someone who has dementia and the numbers are getting higher."

"We're there to help provide that care and also a chat and supportive service for people."

The centre will be open from 9:45am to 3:45pm, Tuesday to Friday, with 11 member spaces available each day, with spaces already taken.

The day clubs are designed to support people with dementia, offering a space to relax and help carers of people with the Alzheimer’s.

"Our dementia day-clubs are there to offer a really lovely, stimulating space and supportive environment for people suffering from Dementia.

Alzheimer’s Support centres use art therapy, board games, as well as therapy dogs and music to support families of affected people.

But with daily costs of more than £800, support from the community is needed, with fundraising welcomed, as well as volunteers.

Among events such as “Denim for Dementia”, Laura added that the charity was keen to forge partnerships with local schools, companies, or community groups to help make the centre a success, calling the people who volunteer for the charity “amazing”.

Laura stressed the importance of fundraisers and volunteers, saying: “We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them.”

If you know someone who is affected by Dementia and feel the new centre might be right for them, contact the charity by email: office@alzheimerswiltshire.org.uk or by phone: 01722 442050.
