Salisbury Cathedral opened it's doors today (Wednesday 20th) for a second Covid-19 vaccination session.

While members of the over 80 community and health care workers from around the city received their first jabs, they were treated to some music from the Cathedral's organists.

David Halls and John Challenger have been taking it in turns to play through their repertoire on both days.

It's hoped the tunes give a sense of calm while people are coming in and out of the building to receive their vaccination.

While taking a break, John told Greatest Hits Radio:

"It was interesting on Saturday because we did have a brief to not go to loud and fast so we've been playing the calming areas of the repertoire really so I certainly got through all of those pieces and I may have to be a bit more adventurous from now on.

I hope it's providing a calm influence, we've had such overwhelmingly positive feedback, more than I could ever have anticipated really so it really seems to be doing something for people, it's the power of music.

The idea came from a request from our senior team at the Cathedral and we just went along with it and if I'm honest before the day arrived I didn't think too much of it but we got going and everyone was just saying how it was doing something for them so we've had an amazing response."

A joint effort between the local NHS, nearby medical centres like Downton and Whiteparish Surgeries and Harcourt, Salisbury and Three Chequers Medical Practices, as well as volunteers, saw the project run smoothly today.

A one way system was in place for patients which saw them receive their jab, move through to a resting area where they sat for 15 minutes and eventually out of the building through the north doors.

They also had buggies to help people to get to where they needed to go more safely and quicker.

It's one of four vaccine hubs to be set up in South Wiltshire, with the others in Wilton, Tidworth and Larkhill so far.
