After a two year hiatus, a charity shopping event in Salisbury has raised more than £50,000.

The Rockbourne Fair, which donates money to the Stars Appeal, had to cut the number of stalls by 15% this year to allow more space for Covid safety measures.

The shopping event didn't take place last year due to the pandemic

Despite this they raised £50,301, just short of the £54,000 they got in 2019.

Bev Moulding, chair of the organising committee, said:

“We are thrilled to have raised such an amazing amount for the Stars Appeal and Salisbury District Hospital. It has been such a difficult year for so many charity events so we feel very grateful that we could put it on again this year to raise these much-needed funds. Our thanks to everyone who came along to 'Shop the Rock' and of course to the stallholders for their continued support of the fair.”

All of Rockbourne Fair’s profits go to the Stars Appeal, the charity which helps hundreds of patients at Salisbury District Hospital and supports the NHS staff who care for them.

The Stars Appeal aim to raise over £1million each year to fund projects which offer direct, practical support to patients, their families and the Hospital’s staff.

It takes place at Salisbury Racecourse

Lord Pembroke, President of the Stars Appeal, said:

“To raise such an incredible amount in what were very challenging circumstances was I think even a surprise to the wonderful team that organised it! It was, in my opinion, the best Rockbourne fair yet with a beautifully curated selection of stands perfectly timed for the run up to Christmas. In what has been a challenging year for the Stars Appeal, a fundraising event such as this really has been a beacon of hope as we head to 2022 and goes to show that despite the barriers facing all of us, it is still possible to achieve the extraordinary. Thank you!"

Next year's event is planned to start on Wednesday 19th October.
