Anti-Social behaviour again on Harnham Slope, Salisbury
Police now using drones to catch illegal motorbike riders
Last updated 19th Mar 2021
The headache and aggravation from dirt bike riders continues for people living near, or who're trying to enjoy walking Salisbury's Harnham Slope.
Yet more anti-social behaviour was reported yesterday (Thursday 18 March 2021).
DIRT BIKES: AN ONGOING HEADACHE
It was caused by motorbikes being ridden illegally on the land at Harnham Slope which is made up of nine acres of woodland and is recognised as a County Wildlife Site, and the adjoining West Harnham Chalk Pit which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and hold geological significance.
Someone called Police to say that off-road bikes had been seen on the bridleways, footpaths and fields damaging crops and putting public safety at risk.
It's not a new problem, but it's been notoriously difficult for Police to deal with and capture the offenders.
POLICE DRONE USED
Officers from the Southern Neighbourhood Team were out patrolling the slope on Thursday.
Salisbury Police say they will now be increasing checks and using their Police Drones to capture the culprits:
"We will be taking positive action against them."
"Anyone found riding here will face having the motorbikes seized and a minimum of 6 points added to their driving license as well as being fined. We encourage anyone to report any incidents to us on 101 or 999 if in progress."
