A dog from Salisbury has had an emotional reunion with his owners, the Franchi family, after going missing for six and a half weeks.

Eli, the Chocolate Labrador, went missing from the Victoria Park area on Monday the 20th of July and was spotted numerous times with a man.

Wiltshire Police were trying to track down the gentleman to do a welfare check and be able to get Eli back to his owners.

46 days later and after being found in Kent, over 150 miles from where he went missing, the pooch is finally back home.

A non profit rescue called 'Futures for Dogs' took Eli into their care and contacted his family before getting him home.

Videos and photos were posted on a Facebook page set up to help locate Eli.

On the social media page it said:

"Thanks to you all - friends and strangers who have taken the time to share Eli’s story, print posters, walk and look out for him. To those of you who have seen things and quietly let us know. To the police and members of Doglost who have supported us in such a patient way and especially to my daughter Chiara who has joined every community group known to man and has posted and reposted and never given up. Eli is safe and tomorrow we will pick him up. Thank you one and all."
