Mere's fire station is putting the hoses to good use today (Saturday 16th March), by hosting a charity car wash.

Crews will sort muddy vehicles in need of a clean on the forecourt at White Road between 10.00am and 2.00pm.

The car washing's in return for donations to the Firefighters' Charity, with a suggested minimum of ÂŁ5 per vehicle.

Firefighter Kelly Gasson said:

“The Charity provides everyone within the fire and rescue service with a vital lifeline when things are tough, whether it’s rehabilitation after injury or someone else to turn to during mental health or financial challenges.

"We know that income has dropped significantly during the pandemic, so we’re keen to raise as much as we can for this great cause.”

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist, lifelong support for all serving and retired members of the UK fire services community, empowering individuals to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives.

It's reliant on donations to meet the ÂŁ10 million cost of operating its centre and community-based services to support over 55,000 beneficiaries.
