Memorial for murdered Salisbury mum and daughter installed in city park
There's now a dedicated spot to remember Aneta and Nikoleta Zdun
Last June the city was rocked after Aneta Zdun and her 18 year old daughter Nikoleta suffered fatal stab wounds at their home in Wessex Road.
Marcin Zdun was found guilty of the murder of his wife and daughter in December and sentenced to life in jail.
In a touching gesture a young couple, who were neighbours of the victims, launched a JustGiving page to raise money for a permanent memorial in the city.
Writing on the site Cameron Pratt said;
"...this tragedy had left a hole in the lives of all who knew Aneta and Nikoleta, including the neighbours, workmen, and the services who raced to the scene on that sunny June day."
With the pair laid to rest in Poland Mr Pratt explained it was important to have a space here to remember the pair;
"The community and residents of Wessex Road feel there should be a permanent memorial somewhere in Salisbury for all those who are grieving the loss of these two amazing young women to lay flowers, sit, or remember their lives and pay their respects."
In just a few days the fundraiser quickly reached its target of £500, with the final total standing at £1,040.
Now in a quiet spot in Queen Elizabeth Gardens a bench and plaque have been dedicated to Aneta and Nikoleta.
The inscription on the plaque, which has also been translated into Polish, reads 'the loss is immeasurable, but so is the love they leave behind.'
With the anniversary of the pair's death approaching it's hoped friends and family will be able to lay flowers at the spot.
