Two fire engines from Salisbury and one from Fordingbridge went along to Hollows Close just before 8.00am today.

They found a blaze in the living room of the property and helped one male out of the second floor of the house.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics as a precaution.

The incident happened in the ground floor living room of a property this morning

The fire was put out before it spread to any other areas of the house.

It's believed to have started accidentally, due to a discarded cigarette.

Salisbury firefighters have posted on their Facebook page to warn of the dangers of cigarettes being left unattended:

"Please make sure when smoking that you discard of your cigarettes safely and make sure they are extinguished. Also please ensure that you have working smoke alarms within the property, this will give you the best chance to exit the property safely and as early as possible."
