A burglar, who pretended he was looking for accommodation when he broke into a home in the New Forest, has been jailed for five years.

44 year old Carl Anthony Lloyd was found in the hallway of a home in South Gorley near Fordingbridge in May last year.

He was confronted by the homeowner, with Lloyd saying he'd been directed to the property to stay there.

Lloyd was found guilty during a trial at Southampton Crown Court in April, and has now been sentenced.

The five year jail term also takes into consideration a burglary on Hayling Island.

Lloyd admitted going into the Yew Tree Inn on Havant Road and stealing £180 from the till.

DC Sarah Down led the investigation. She said:

“Your home is somewhere you should feel safe – which is why dwelling burglaries can be so traumatic for those affected, beyond the impact of the belongings that are stolen.

“Carl Lloyd is a prolific offender who will now spend a significant amount of time behind bars for the crimes that he has committed.

“This sentence shows we will explore all opportunities to bring offenders to justice, we will ensure that we relentlessly pursue those who cause harm in our communities and I hope it reassures our communities that we take burglary very seriously.”
