Police say Mohammed Baig brought a 'campaign of misery' to his victims life
A man has been handed a two year prison sentence for domestic abuse related offences that happened in Trowbridge.
Mohammed Baig, from Headfield Road, Savile Town in Dewsbury was sentenced for series of offences including controlling and coercive behaviour, assault and dangerous driving.
Wiltshire Police say Baig inflicted a 'campaign of misery' on his victim, which included assaulting her in a car.
His behaviour included controlling the woman's access to money, taking away her phone and threatening her.
On 8th August 2024, Baig was travelling with the woman on the M42 when he punched her in the head with so much force that the car they were in moved.
Later that month, on 26th August, Baig followed his victim when she refused to speak to him. Witnesses described how he was swerving across the road in front and behind the woman.
Local Crime Investigator O'Harney said he was pleased to see Baig end up behind bars, as well as praising the victim for her bravery in coming forward.
“I want to thank the victim in this case for her support of our investigation. Reporting domestic abuse is such a difficult thing to do, and seeing a court process through is even harder.
“But she has done both, and though nothing will take away the memories of these events, I hope the conclusion of this case provides her with some comfort.
“Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Wiltshire Police, and we will continue working hard, not only to put people like Mohammed Baig behind bars but also to make people like this woman feel empowered to report this type of abuse to us.”
