A man's been fined over £680 for flytipping a part of his car that had broken off, in the Test Valley.

47 year old Sergio Dias De Oliviera, from Nelson Road in Southampton, was spotted on CCTV leaving an oily undertray from his Audi vehicle, outside a property in Lockerley.

He was working as an Amazon delivery driver at the time, and was seen dropping off a parcel straight after the incident in September last year.

During a prosecution by Test Valley Borough Council, De Oliviera was invited for an interview under caution, and claimed he's found the item in the middle of the road and was moving it for safety reasons.

He later admitted it had broken off from his car, and he'd taken it out of his boot to be dumped.

De Oliviera pleaded guilty to flytipping at Southampton Magistrates and has been handed a conditional discharge for 12 months, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £22 and full costs of £659.15.

Test Valley member for environmental services, Councillor Nick Adams-King, said:

“Every successful prosecution is evidence of the great work our teams are doing to stamp out fly-tipping of any kind across Test Valley. This result is proof that, no matter how big or small the waste is, we will take all incidents seriously. Your waste is always your responsibility and you must dispose of it safely and legally, you cannot dump the problem on someone else.

“This should serve as warning to anyone considering fly-tipping to think again, as it is not worth the consequences. We have many household waste recycling centres across the borough and there are lots of ways to dispose of this kind of waste properly.”
