Lucky escape for Laverstock alpacas!

River Bourne Community Farm has suffered a lightning strike.

A paddock at the River Bourne Community Farm in Laverstock was hit by lightning during the bad weather on Friday (28th August).

Luckily, the alpacas that are kept in the field weren't hurt, but the strike actually melted a drainage pipe laid under the grass.

The pipe has now been fixed, and the team say all the alpacas are "fine and dandy".

The River Bourne Community Farm is a free to visit, city farm including fifty four acres of water meadows and lots of animals, including the alpacas.

They re-opened earlier in August, after months closed due to Covid-19.

People must now book beforehand if they want to visit.

But, the team is urging anyone who's booked but then can't go to let them know, as they're having quite a few no-shows, which prevents others from being able to go.
