Wiltshire village - the world's most romantic - prepares for Valentine's Day
Lover is getting ready for another influx of visitors
Lover, in South Wiltshire, is getting ready for its busiest time of year – Valentine’s Day.
The village will be opening its pop-up ‘Lover Valentine Post’ office allowing you to send your card from the most romantic village in the world, whilst raising money for local projects and the British Heart Foundation.
Resident, Katie Small, said she is excited to get started:
“It’s the highlight of our year, it brings the whole community together and its wonderful to raise so much money for the old school building which we’re renovating.”
The village has no permanent post office after it closed down, but 2023 will be the seventh year the Lover Valentine Post will open.
To celebrate, Katie says there will be a new stamp.
“We have been using the same cachet stamp for six years but we realised we’ve got such a loyal following of our campaign that it was really important to refresh the cachet stamp.
“We went through the archives and went back to the 90s when the post office was open and found the most beautiful cachet stamp which we’ve now turned into a stamp for this year.”
The campaign sees cards sent all over the world, and while most of the sales are online many still flock to the village during the period.
Katie says that because of this, there is not just a pop-up post office but also the Darling café as well:
“The Darling café its such a lovely story.
“We have the Darling family live in Lover. And actually Mrs Darling is famous for her shortbread biscuits, and we thought ‘hang on a minute there’s a really lovely idea in this.’
“We have so many visitors come to our village during the Valentine period, so why don’t we have a café for them to sit and have a piece of cake and a cup of tea? So the Darling family agreed to take that project on.”
The Lover Post is now open online, with the Darling Café open from Tuesday 7th to Tuesday 14th February.
