Firefighters are dealing with a lorry on fire on the A303 near Chicklade.

The road has been shut between the A350 West Knoyle and the A36 at Deptford.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and diversions are in place.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue said:

"We were called 7:41am today with reports of a large vehicle fire on the A303 between the A350 junction and Chicklade.

"Crews from Shaftesbury, Warminster, Mere and the water carrier from Wilton were mobilised along with an appliance from Wincanton (Devon & Somerset FRS) and on arrival found a lorry carrying straw alight.

"Crews are working to extinguish the fire which started in the cab area and spread to the straw load.

"The road is closed in both directions whilst the crews work to put the fire out."
