His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire will be at Westminster Abbey this Saturday for the Coronation of King Charles III.

Mrs Sarah Troughton represents the sovereign in our county and will be attending with her husband. She told Greatest Hits Radio that being invited was an honour.

“The numbers have had to be cut dramatically from the late Queen’s coronation in 1953, so we feel very pleased and very honoured that we're going.

“It was a great surprise when the postman rang the doorbell and said, ‘I can’t fit this through the letterbox, but it looks quite exciting’.”

And it won’t surprise you to find out that the Coronation invites are fancier than your average letter in the post.

“It's about the size of three quarters of a magazine,” HM Lord-Lieutenant said, “It's got the king and Queen Camilla's crests at the top, and then it's got lots of beautiful flowers and bumble bees and daffodils and butterflies and all sorts of things that they are both interested in.”

Mrs Troughton also had praise for Salisbury’s Coronation celebration plans, saying the city has pulled out all the stops.

“Salisbury is doing fantastic things. There's a big service in the Cathedral on Sunday at 3:30, which I shall be at. There's lots happening all over all over the county, but certainly Salisbury is pulling out all the stops and it's going to be fantastic.”

As well as the service at the Cathedral, there is The Big Lunch at Queen Elizabeth Gardens from 11am on Sunday, followed by The Big Gig in the Market Place at 4pm, where The Deloreans are headlining.

Mrs Troughton also reckons King Charles’ reign will be a positive one.

“He's done some extraordinary things and I think he should be really proud of that and can celebrate it. He's pretty good at getting around the country and he's very keen on the Commonwealth.

“I think when he first was proclaimed king after the queen died, the reaction of everybody to him was very touching and very real.”
