Taking on the London Marathon is a huge challenge for anyone, but one man from Ludgerhsall has upped the ante... by running in a dog suit.

It is not the first time Shaun Wildgoose has run a marathon in the suit, last year he ran the virtual one across Salisbury Plain.

He is raising money for the Dog's Trust, a charity that he has been volunteering with since he sadly lost his German Shepperd.

Shaun says having been a dog lover most of his life, he wanted to give back to the Dogs Trust after losing money because of the pandemic.

"When I left the army and decided find my own home, as luck would have it I turned out to live just up the road from a Dogs Trust Centre!

"I soon became a volunteer there walking dogs and cleaning kennels, then with my family we decided to become dog fosterers, until eventually we fostered one we couldn’t let go, and after having such a tough start to his life before he came to Dogs Trust, he soon became one of our family.

"Dogs Trust do amazing work, caring for dogs, rehoming dogs, providing training and advice, and it’s essential that their service continues to help support dogs, promote their welfare and raise awareness of the most important issues effecting dogs."

As well as running the London Marathon and the Brighton Marathon a week apart, Shaun is running a couple of couple of half marathons too.

If he beats his fundraising target of £1900 he will run the Brighton Marathon in the dog costume too.

Runners raising money for Stars Appeal

There are also people running the London Marathon for Salisbury's Stars Appeal Charity.

They wish all their supporters who are running the very best of luck today.

Another runner taking part for the Stars Appeal is Ian Poole who has raised over £600 for the Charity's Heart Fund.

Here is his reason for supporting them:

"Last year I was taken seriously ill when the electrics that naturally control my heart failed. I was rushed to Salisbury District Hospital where I had to have a Cardiac Pacemaker implanted to control each and every beat of my heart."
