A section of the bank collapsed on the road earlier this year and work is needed to ensure it doesn't happen again.

The road will be shut from the junction of Barford Lane in Downton to the junction of Appletree Road in Redlynch.

The work is scheduled to begin today (15th February) and is expected to take until the 26th February although signs at the site show a two week closure.

The work was originally due to begin at the end of November but due to the disruption was moved to incorporate half term.

OFFICIAL DIVERSION ROUTE

The official diversion route is via the A338 and across the New Forest.

BUSES

Salisbury Reds say the 44 service and PR9 services will be affected by the road closure.

Those services will need to follow the "lengthy diversions" between Downton and Woodfalls via Woodgreen and Breamore adding 20 minutes to the journey time.

The company said;

"It will not be possible to serve bus stops between The Sidings and Morgan's Vale Corner but temporary stops will be located at the Village Hall and War Memorial."

A temporary timetable is in place on the Salisbury Reds website.

The timetable will be subject to alteration during the second week (after half term) and will have details of buses to Salisbury and Trafalgar Schools.

The changes will depend on how much progress the contractors make during the first week.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council told Greatest Hits Radio school buses will be allowed through.

"Most of the difficult work will be undertaken during the first week which is half term and school buses will be allowed through during the second week."
