Too many people still aren't disposing of their rubbish properly in Wiltshire

In just one week 124 bags of rubbish have been collected from verges in the south of the county, that's approximately 1.6 tonnes.

Areas targeted included the A36, A338 and country lanes in the Redlynch area.

66 bags alone were collected on the A338 from Tidworth to Collingbourne Ducis along with 7 traffic signs and one tyre.

It costs Wiltshire Council around £2.5m a year to collect rubbish from the highway and open spaces in the county, money the local authority says is "avoidable expenditure that could be spent elsewhere."

Its urging people to "please play your part to protect our beautiful countryside by disposing of your waste responsibly."
