Laverstock school records their own Christmas single
Pupils at St Andrews are marking a 'Special Time of Year'
The song's been written by Mark Walker, husband of the headteacher at St Andrews in Laverstock, and also a visiting music teacher there.
'Special Time of Year' reflects on this year being difficult for children not seeing their families as much, due to the pandemic, but is also about hope that things will get better.
The first verse sees the children sing:
You may be lonely and feeling sad,
Missing all your loved ones,
It all seems so bad.
But it won't be forever,
There's got to be an end - someday
A video of the song's been made too, with the children recording their parts in class bubbles.
They mimed to the song for the clips outside, before recording their singing inside.
The finished product has then been shared with parents - here's how it turned out:
The school's been trying hard to connect with its community throughout this year, including sharing videos of the teachers reading stories to the pupils during the first lockdown.
They also created chalk 'thank yous' to key workers.
The chorus of the song is a reminder to all of us, ahead of the festive season:
We can still celebrate this special time of year
We can still celebrate at Christmas
Even though you're not here
We can cherish all our memories
We can still send all our love
Even though you're not here
We can spread a little cheer
At this special time of year
And I wish that you were here
