An 18-year-old has lost his licence just three weeks after passing his test, after a drink driving offence.

Harvey Teale, of Cator Road, Larkhill, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on 28th November 2025, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving.

The incident took place in the early hours of 28th September, around 1.30am, when members of the public raised concerns that Teale had appeared intoxicated before getting into a Vauxhall Corsa.

The vehicle, described by witnesses, was believed to be heading toward Southampton Road.

Officers found the car shortly after and observed Teale driving poorly. He admitted being over the legal limit and subsequently failed a breath test.

PC Aaron Pedliham commented on the case, expressing the consequences of driving under the influence.

“Teale had only held a driving licence for three weeks before he was stopped and found to be over the drink drive limit.

“His manner of driving, when spotted by police, fell well below the standard we would expect of a competent driver and I am pleased a driving ban has been handed out.

“This approach to driving, despite being so new to the roads, is unacceptable and puts lives at risk.

Warning for festive season

Pedliham highlighted the dangers of drink driving, particularly as celebrations increase during the Christmas season.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol is a fatal 5 offence – one of the leading causes of serious injury and fatalities on our roads," he said.

“Over the Christmas period, more people will be out and about celebrating and consuming alcohol. Please, ensure you have planned your journey home and do not drink and drive.”

Sentence

As well as being handed a driving disqualification, Teale was ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 in CPS costs, and a £48 surcharge.
