The refurbishment of Trowbridge Town Hall is said to have reached a 'key milestone' - with the removal of hoardings, which have been in place since August 2023.

These works of the historic building are being done as part of £16 million worth of upgrades to the town.

We're told the hoarding will be removed during the evenings of Monday 28 April through to Wednesday 30 April 2025 and will be replaced with heras fencing for the remainder of the refurbishment period.

Market Street and Silver Street will be closed from 7pm to midnight each evening to facilitate this work.

The council say pedestrian and emergency services access will be maintained, but no other vehicular access will be permitted.

They say: "During these road closures, Roundstone Street will temporarily reopen from 7pm to midnight to maintain access to Roundstone Street, Polebarn Road and Yerbury Street with connections to Hilperton Road and County Way.

"The taxi rank opposite the Town Hall will be completely closed during these evening closures, for the whole evening. Alternative taxi ranks are available at Castle Street and St Stephens Place.

"To make the best use of these road closures, CCTV surveys of the underground drainage systems will also be carried out in the town centre to ensure the surface water drainage network is functioning correctly. Conducting the survey during the existing road closures will help avoid future disruptions to residents and businesses."

Parvis Khansari, Corporate Director – Place, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused as we near the end of the refurbishment period. While the building won’t be open to the public until the Summer, it’s great to see this wonderful Grade II listed building coming back to life.

"This major project forms part of the £16 million investment in Trowbridge town centre via the Future High Streets Fund.”
