Owners urged to keep dogs on leads after deer attacks in Wilton

Please use a bit of 'common sense'

Dog owners around Salisbury are being asked to keep their four-legged friends on a lead and under control when they're walking around the Wilton Estate.

It comes as there has been an increase in walkers, which has led to several incidents of wildlife like deer being attacked.

People walking their dogs in the Wilton Estate are being asked to "lead by example"

The Estate and Police are asking us to be responsible in order to stop these kinds of incidents happening.

Chris Rolfe from the Wilton Estate said:

"We kindly ask all dog owners to keep their dogs under control/on a lead and abide by the Country Code.

With the increase in dog walkers, we are starting to experience several incidents of wildlife being attacked by dogs who are out of control."

PCSO Matthew Smith said:

"We want people to be able to enjoy the countryside. However, if people are out and about with a dog, please use a bit of common sense. Use a lead if there is livestock or wildlife around and don’t deviate from the public rights of way, as potentially, they could be trespassing."

In March, a similar plea was issued in order to prevent livestock worrying happening during lambing season.
