Julia's House asks us to take on 'virtual voyages' to Seven Wonders of the World
The children's hospice charity is calling on supporters to 'travel the world' for them
Last updated 27th Jan 2021
Julia's House children's hospice is hoping we'll get in out lockdown exercise, while using an app they've put together where we can 'visit' places around the world for a bit of motivation.
There's a range of routes and locations to choose from to complete our fitness goals:
- A 40 mile trek around Macchu Picchu in Peru
- 60 miles along the Great Wall of China
- 90 miles to Chichen Itza in Mexico
- A trip to Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil of 100 miles
- 136 miles around the Taj Mahal in India
- Take on 192 miles to Rome's Colosseum
- The biggest challenge is 265 miles of Jordanian desert to the ancient city of Petra
The idea is that we run, walk, cycle or any other form of exercise the length if the route, however quickly or slowly we like, taking in the sights on our phones or tablets - in return for a ÂŁ12.99 donation to the charity.
We can sign up for access to the app through the Julia's House website.
Julia's House say they've put the challenges together to be 100% lockdown friendly, while still giving us a chance to maintain our health and wellbeing and support the cause.
FUNDRAISING VITAL FOR JULIA'S HOUSE
The children's hospice charity relies completely on public donations to run its Wiltshire Hospice.
During the pandemic, they're suffered a huge drop in financial support, due to fundraising events being cancelled and their charity shops, including the one on Salisbury's Fisherton Street having to close.
For every month their stores are shut, the charity's loses ÂŁ150,000.
Julia's House is working to keep their services for children with life-limiting conditions and their families running as much as possible.
That includes things like respite sessions in people's homes, online play and storytime sessions and end-of-life care where needed.
