A team from Chilmark based charity Serve On have been doing their bit for the community, by clearing up some of the River Avon.

Salisbury Community Resilience Team picked up litter and debris from a stretch of the river, clearing two tributaries from the Bishops Mill pub to Mill Stream Approach last Thursday (2nd September).

Some of the things pulled out from the river

They were joined by some special guests, including MP John Glen, Councillor Sven Hocking and Lynne Davies from Salisbury City Council.

They helped the team with some of the clear up.

The volunteers were fully kitted out in PPE and drew upon their skills in Water and Flood Rescue training to execute the task safely.

They fished out all manner of things including, bicycles, shopping trolleys, a bed frame and a multitude of other items.

The debris was left in piles for the council to pick up in the morning.

Barrie Sinclair-Kemp, Community Resilience Team Manager, said:

“We are always more than happy to assist our local community with tasks such as this, to help create a better environment for local wildlife and residents.”

The team are back out this week

The Salisbury CRT will be back on Thursday (9th September) clearing up another part of the River Avon.
