We've been told by the Leader of Wiltshire Council that work on Fisherton Street in Salisbury is just 'a few weeks' away from completion, but he's been frustrated by the delays.

The project has suffered delays thanks to gas pipes at the north section of the street being in unexpected places.

Council Leader, Richard Clewer says no one is to blame for the hold ups.

"When work was started, the contractors found that the utilities, particularly the gas, was far higher up than you would expect," he said,

It's caused 'significant' delays that Cllr Clewer says have been 'frustrating'.

"It's meant we've had barriers blockages up for much longer than expected," he said.

However, now that the construction teams are working on the south side of the street, the utility pipe issue is far less challenging.

Cllr Clewer said: "Pretty much everything is where we expected, and it's much deeper. So that's working and we're making progress.

"It's taken too long, there's no other way of putting it and I really feel for the the traders and the people who've had to endure it, but there is light at the end of the tunnel we are a few weeks away now from that being finished."
