Investigations continue into a fire at the historic Old Sarum Airfield.

A blaze broke out at one of the grade 2 listed hangars on Thursday evening (17 April).

It's been gutted and a café destroyed.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue have confirmed that investigations into the incident will continue 'well into' this week.

They were called on Thursday evening, after which the hangar had partially collapsed.

Crews issued a warning, adding they assumed the smoke billowing out of the building 'likely' contained asbestos.

On Friday, crews continued their work to extinguish the blaze, before leaving the scene at just after 12.30pm.

They added: "The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. The advice about keeping doors and windows closed has been rescinded, and any ash or debris in the local area should be left for the wind/rain to clear."

And later that evening, said: "A number of hotspots have been dealt with, and the stop came in at 7.20pm. A further reinspection will be held in the morning.

"Investigations into the cause of the fire are likely to carry on well into next week. Further updates will be provided here."
