Advice to car owners
Officers are asking drivers to make sure they're not leaving valuables in their cars, and to park in well-lit areas, covered by CCTV, where possible.
Other tips include:
- Always lock it - even if we're paying for fuel or popping back into the house because we've forgotten something
- Close windows and sunroofs to prevent criminals 'fishing' for items inside
- Secure your number plates with tamper proof screws
- Fit locking anti-tamper wheel nuts to alloy wheels
- Secure anything on the outside of your vehicle
- Take valuables with you where possible
- Hide electrical items, and leave no clues like wires and holders
- Mark any tools that might be kept in a van
- Don't keep vehicle registrations in the car
- Choose you car park wisely - such as well-lit or staffed ones
The warnings also come at the same time as a spate of car thefts in Salisbury targeting keyless starting cars.
