Ice warning for the South following wintry showers
The Met Office has issued a yellow alert from this evening (Thurs 21st Nov)
After snow hit much of the South this morning - we're now being told icy conditions could make driving conditions treacherous later.
A yellow Met Office weather warning's out for Dorset, south Hampshire, south Wiltshire, and parts of the Isle of Wight and West Sussex from 5.00pm tonight (Thursday 21st November) until 10.00am tomorrow (Friday 22nd).
We're warned to expect icy stretches on untreated surfaces as temperatures drop below freezing.
There's some advice from the Met Office:
- Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
- If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
- Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
- Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.
This ice warning comes ahead of the expected arrival of Storm Bert at the weekend (Saturday 23rd November).
That's bringing with it further yellow weather warnings for heavy rain and some strong winds, particularly on the coast.
